Reflection

Going into ENGL-1301 I expected the class to be like other English classes I had previously taken, I expected essays, books to be assigned, etc. This class was the complete opposite. Sitting in the first day of class and going over the syllabus I was debating dropping the class. I thought that I would not enjoy the class and originally signed up to take a traditional English class. And didn't want to participate in the assignments we talked about while reading over the syllabus. One of my main struggles in the class was opening up and staying positive about the idea that I would learn more in this class, unlike traditional English class. I was challenged the most in the course during our first few Socratic seminars, It was challenging for me because it was different, and I had never done anything like it. It challenged me with the idea that as a class we can all argue different sides of an argument and we all can have credible sources to back us up and still not come to one final solution. While looking over the entire semester I think I learned a lot, one thing I learned was the understanding that there isn’t a definite answer when debating topics. I also learned that just because a class isn’t traditional doesn’t mean it’s unbeneficial. I believe by being in this ENGL-1301 class I learned more than I would have learned in a traditional English class.
